Nice reflective post.  I especially liked the last line:
"...what is really important is that they lean how to learn."

Public schooling and college put me in educational settings where I was thrown content.  Some of that content has left my mind on its own accord, but the skills I learned to understand the information continue to stick and improve as I move on to new and exciting material.
